DENVER — In a major development altering one of Colorado’s most high-profile post-2020 legal battles, Democratic Governor Jared Polis on Friday commuted the prison sentence of former Mesa County election clerk Tina Peters

The decision, which orders her release from prison on June 1, 2026, follows a sustained public and economic pressure campaign from President Donald Trump.

Peters, 70, had been serving a nine-year sentence following her 2024 conviction for orchestrating a scheme to illegally copy her county’s Dominion Voting Systems server.

The political gridlock broke following an April appeals court ruling which, despite upholding Peters' convictions, determined that the trial judge had unfairly lengthened her sentence as punishment for her public speeches on election fraud. Governor Polis utilized this judicial opening to step in, clarifying in a letter to Peters that while her nonviolent crimes were serious, her nine-year term was "extremely unusual and lengthy" for a first-time offender.

Federal Sanctions and State Pushback

Because Peters was convicted under state law rather than federal statutes, she remained outside the reach of the president's direct constitutional pardon powers. However, the White House aggressively championed her freedom, launching a series of retaliatory measures against Colorado for keeping her behind bars.

The political fallout for the state included:

  • Funding Cuts: The White House restricted federal funds, denied disaster assistance, and barred Governor Polis from an annual governors' meeting.

  • Institutional Loss: The administration ordered the relocation of the U.S. Space Command from Colorado to Alabama.

  • Scientific Shutdown: Plans were initiated to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado.

While President Trump celebrated the news on Truth Social with a post reading "FREE TINA!", local state Democrats expressed deep dismay. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold slammed the decision during a press conference, calling it "an affront to the rule of law" and a "dark day for democracy." Griswold warned that the commutation signals that individuals who break the law on behalf of the president will face no real accountability.

Health Concerns in Detention

The push for clemency was also fueled by Peters' defense team, who documented her rapidly deteriorating health while incarcerated at a facility in Pueblo.

Peters, who has chronic pain from fibromyalgia and had part of her right lung removed in 2017, suffered from severe respiratory distress and sleep deprivation inside the prison walls.

Governor Polis—who frequently diverges from conventional Democratic alignment—had initially insisted that Peters show genuine contrition before receiving clemency.

However, facing immense federal pressure and a deteriorating humanitarian situation regarding her health, the governor ultimately moved to end her imprisonment ahead of schedule.

New Delhi | May 10, 2026: The 2026 Assembly election results have delivered a historic transformation across the Indian political landscape.

From the first-ever BJP government in West Bengal to a cinematic shift in Tamil Nadu, the mandates reflect a significant realignment of regional and national power.

Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In as West Bengal Chief Minister

In a landmark shift for Eastern India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a landslide victory in West Bengal, ending the 15-year tenure of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC). The BJP won 207 of the 294 assembly seats.

  • Key Highlight: Suvendu Adhikari was officially sworn in as the Chief Minister on May 9, 2026.

  • The Victory: Adhikari successfully defeated former CM Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur while retaining his stronghold in Nandigram.

  • Significance: This marks the first time the BJP has formed a government in West Bengal since the state's inception.

Tamil Nadu: Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK Breaks Dravidian Duopoly

Tamil Nadu witnessed a political earthquake as film icon C. Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest force.

  • New Leadership: Vijay is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today, May 10, 2026, at Chennai’s Nehru Stadium.

  • The Mandate: Securing 108 seats on its own and gaining support from allies like VCK and IUML, the TVK has ended nearly six decades of alternating rule between the DMK and AIADMK.

Assam and Kerala: Continuity and Change

While the coasts saw major upsets, the elections in Assam and Kerala followed more predictable trajectories with strong mandates for the winning alliances.

Assam: Third Term for Himanta Biswa Sarma

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power in Assam for a historic third consecutive term, winning 92 out of 126 seats.

  • Chief Minister: Himanta Biswa Sarma remains the architect of the BJP’s dominance in the Northeast, consolidating a massive majority.

Kerala: UDF Secures Decisive Win

In Kerala, the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Congress party, unseated the ruling LDF by winning 97 of the 140 assembly seats.

  • Current Status: While Pinarayi Vijayan serves as the caretaker CM, the UDF is expected to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate shortly, with K.C. Venugopal and V. D. Satheesan as the primary frontrunners.

London, May 9, 2026 — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing one of the toughest moments of his leadership after Labour suffered significant losses in elections held across England, Scotland and Wales.

As criticism grows within the party, Starmer has moved quickly to reinforce his administration by appointing experienced Labour figures to key advisory roles. Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been named special envoy on global finance, while veteran Labour politician Harriet Harman will serve as an adviser on women and girls.

Starmer Admits Labour Failed to Inspire Voters

Reacting publicly to the election results, Starmer acknowledged that Labour had not done enough to convince voters that the party could deliver meaningful change. He said the government had focused heavily on economic pressures and international crises but failed to communicate a positive vision for ordinary people.

The prime minister admitted that Labour had made mistakes and accepted that the results reflected public frustration.

Defiant Response to Calls for Resignation

Several Labour politicians have reportedly questioned Starmer’s future following the electoral setback, with some urging him to consider stepping aside. However, the prime minister strongly rejected the idea of resigning.

Starmer said leaving office at such a difficult time would create instability and insisted his priority is to rebuild trust, strengthen the party and provide a clearer direction for the country.

He also promised to outline a renewed political roadmap aimed at restoring confidence among voters in the coming days.

Experienced Labour Figures Return to Key Roles

Explaining Gordon Brown’s appointment, Starmer pointed to growing global financial uncertainty and rising security concerns. He said Brown’s experience during past economic crises would help Britain navigate international economic challenges and strengthen cooperation with allies.

Harriet Harman’s new role will focus on addressing violence against women, tackling misogyny and increasing opportunities for women in public and political life.

Mixed Reaction Inside Labour Party

The return of prominent Labour veterans has generated divided opinions within the party. Some Labour members welcomed the move, saying experienced leadership is needed during a politically difficult period.

Others argued the appointments could reinforce criticism that Labour is relying too heavily on figures from the past instead of presenting a fresh political direction to voters.

Election Results Reshape British Politics

The elections dramatically altered the political balance across the UK. In Wales, Plaid Cymru emerged as the largest force in the Senedd, while Labour suffered a historic decline. In Scotland, the Scottish National Party remained the biggest party but failed to secure an outright majority.

Meanwhile, Reform UK achieved major gains in English local elections, strengthening its position as an increasingly influential political force.

Analysts believe the results reflect widespread dissatisfaction with mainstream political parties and growing demand for new political solutions across Britain.

KOLKATA In a dramatic political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a landmark victory in West Bengal, bringing an end to the 15-year dominance of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The result marks a major breakthrough for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party in a state long considered resistant to its influence, reshaping the political dynamics of eastern India.

A Turning Point in Bengal Politics

For years, West Bengal stood apart from the broader national trend that favored the BJP. That barrier has now been decisively broken, as voters delivered a clear mandate for change.

The BJP significantly expanded its support base, pushing its vote share beyond 44 percent—enough to overtake the incumbent government and secure control of the state.

Challenging the TMC Stronghold

Mamata Banerjee’s political strength had long rested on welfare-driven policies, particularly among rural communities and women voters. However, the BJP mounted an aggressive campaign offering broader financial benefits and development promises, effectively countering the TMC’s established appeal.

At the same time, growing dissatisfaction with governance issues and local leadership created an opening that the BJP successfully capitalized on.

Factors Behind TMC’s Decline

Several key developments contributed to the fall of the TMC government:

  • Organizational Weakness: The grassroots network that once ensured electoral success appeared to lose its effectiveness over time.
  • Corruption Allegations: High-profile scandals, including controversies surrounding teacher recruitment, became central campaign issues.
  • Voter Discontent: A sense of fatigue among sections of the electorate weakened the ruling party’s hold.

National Impact and Power Dynamics

The victory is being seen as a significant boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, who played a leading role in the campaign.

Within the BJP, the result is likely to strengthen Amit Shah’s position as a key figure in the party’s future leadership structure.

A New Political Chapter

With this win, the BJP has expanded its footprint into one of India’s most politically significant states. West Bengal, once a stronghold of regional dominance, is now set to enter a new phase under BJP leadership.

The outcome signals not just a change in government, but a broader transformation in the country’s political landscape.

NEW DELHI — Major exit polls released on Wednesday suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies are set to make strategic gains in several state elections.

These projections indicate a potential expansion of the party's influence following the 2024 general elections, where the BJP relied on coalition partners to maintain a majority.

State-by-State Projections

The month-long electoral process concluded on Wednesday, spanning the states of Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry.

  • Assam: Projections show the BJP-led alliance likely returning for a third straight term after a decade in power.

  • West Bengal: In a major potential shift, several pollsters are forecasting an upset victory for the BJP over the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

  • Tamil Nadu: The ruling DMK alliance is expected to resist the national trend and secure a second consecutive term.

  • Kerala: A tight race is predicted to result in the Communist-led government losing to a Congress-led opposition coalition.

  • Puducherry: The NDA is projected to retain its hold on the territory following exceptionally high voter participation.

High Turnout and Intensive Campaigns

The election cycle was defined by record-breaking engagement and focused campaigning.

  • Voter Participation: Turnout reached historic highs, with 91.23% in Puducherry and 85.1% in Tamil Nadu.

  • Campaign Focus: In West Bengal, the BJP executed an intensive ground campaign led by Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing regional economic health and border security issues.

The Path to Final Results

While exit polls provide early insight, analysts note that Indian projections have a historically mixed record due to the sheer diversity of the electorate.

The official verification of the mandate begins soon:

New Delhi, April 29, 2026: India is currently witnessing a crucial phase of its 2026 election cycle, with multiple state assembly elections, bypolls, and local body contests shaping the country’s political landscape ahead of national developments.

The ongoing elections cover five key regions—West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry—where voting began earlier in April and is concluding in phases. The results for all major contests are scheduled to be announced on May 4, 2026.

Multi-State Elections and Voter Participation

The elections are being held in staggered phases to ensure security and smooth management. States like Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry completed polling on April 9, while Tamil Nadu and the first phase in West Bengal voted on April 23. The second and final phase in West Bengal is taking place on April 29.

Voter turnout has remained strong in several regions. For instance, Puducherry recorded an impressive turnout of nearly 90 percent, reflecting high public engagement in the democratic process.

West Bengal: Political Clash Intensifies

West Bengal remains the focal point of national attention due to its intense political rivalry. Voting in 142 constituencies in the second phase is underway, with major parties battling for control of the state assembly.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that central agencies and security forces are interfering in the electoral process and intimidating her party workers. Despite these claims, polling has largely proceeded peacefully, though tensions remain high between competing political camps.

BJP Dominance in Local Elections

Parallel to the state polls, local body elections in different parts of India indicate continued strength for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Recent municipal election results in Gujarat’s Anand district show the BJP securing a decisive majority in several civic bodies, reinforcing its grassroots political presence.

Similarly, early trends from Surat municipal elections suggest the party is leading in most wards, while opposition parties struggle to gain ground.

Exit Polls and National Implications

With polling concluding across all states, exit polls—particularly from Kerala—are expected to be released after voting officially ends on April 29. These projections may offer early indications of voter sentiment but final results will only be confirmed on May 4.

The outcome of these elections is likely to have significant national implications, influencing political strategies, alliances, and governance narratives in the lead-up to future parliamentary contests.

Broader Electoral Landscape

Beyond state elections, India’s 2026 electoral calendar also includes Rajya Sabha polls and multiple by-elections triggered by resignations and deaths of sitting lawmakers.

Together, these elections represent a major test for both the ruling alliance and opposition blocs, as they seek to consolidate power across states and prepare for the next phase of national politics.

The American political landscape is buzzing following bold predictions from veteran Democratic strategist James Carville. In a recent episode of the Politics War Room podcast,

Carville doubled down on his theory that President Donald Trump may not finish his second term, suggesting a resignation could be on the horizon following the 2026 midterm elections.

Carville, known for his blunt and often colorful political analysis, argues that a significant loss of legislative power would be the catalyst for the President’s early departure.

The "Power Vacuum" Theory

According to Carville, the shift in political gravity following a potential midterm defeat would be more than the President is willing to endure. He suggests that if the GOP loses control of the House and Senate, Trump’s influence will "seep out" rapidly.

  • Lobbyist Shifts: Carville posits that special interests and lobbyists will immediately begin "cutting deals on the other side" as the administration's leverage fades.

  • International Stature: He joked that even world leaders, like the Chancellor of Germany, might take days to return the President's calls once he is viewed as a "lame duck."

  • Social Isolation: In a classic Carville observation, he noted that even the exclusive guest lists for Washington D.C. events and holiday parties would begin to shift away from the administration.

A Pardon from Vance?

The most provocative part of Carville's theory involves a calculated exit strategy. He suggests that Trump—whom he described in harsh terms as lacking the "stamina" for a post-midterm struggle—might opt to walk away in exchange for legal protection.

"I think he just gets JD Vance to pardon him, and I think there's a good chance he just says... 'It ain't worth it,'" Carville stated during the broadcast.

Co-host Al Hunt echoed these sentiments, speculating that any resignation would likely be contingent on a pre-arranged deal with Vice President JD Vance. This "structured deal" would aim to ensure the President does not face federal prosecution after leaving office, mirroring the historical precedent set by Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon.

Analysis of Willpower

Carville did not hold back on his personal assessment of the President's current state, claiming that Trump is "physically and mentally" incapable of navigating a hostile final two years in office. He characterized the President's resolve as "deteriorating" and argued that once the prestige of the office begins to fade, Trump will choose to "walk away" rather than fight a deadlocked Congress.

While critics argue that Carville’s predictions are more speculative than scientific, the strategist remains adamant that the current administration may conclude much sooner than the 2028 inauguration.

COPENHAGEN – Seizing on a dramatic surge in nationalistic sentiment, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has dissolved parliament and called for an early general election on March 24, 2026.

The move is a strategic "all-in" bet by the Social Democratic leader, who hopes to convert her steadfast defiance of U.S. President Donald Trump into a fresh four-year mandate.

Speaking to a packed chamber on Thursday, Frederiksen framed the upcoming vote as a crossroads for the very identity of the Danish Kingdom.

From Domestic Slump to Global Defiance

Only months ago, Frederiksen’s government was reeling from a series of domestic setbacks. The Social Democrats had suffered historic losses in municipal elections—losing their century-long grip on the Copenhagen mayoralty—and were facing public ire over the 2023 abolition of a public holiday to fund defense spending.

However, the "Greenland Crisis" has radically altered the political landscape:

  • The Polling Rebound: Support for the Social Democrats has climbed from a dismal 17% in December to roughly 22-23% this month.

  • The "Steady Hand" Image: Much like her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, Frederiksen has successfully cast herself as the protector of the realm against "new colonialism."

  • European Solidarity: She has effectively rallied EU heavyweights like France and Germany, who have recently rotated troops through Greenland in a symbolic rejection of U.S. expansionism.

A Campaign of Two Fronts

While the standoff with the White House takes center stage, Frederiksen is using the snap election to launch a bold domestic platform aimed at reconnecting with her base:

  1. Sovereignty & Rearmament: Pledging to "define a new relationship" with the U.S., she has called for accelerated military spending to ensure Europe can "stand on its own two feet."

  2. The "Wealth Tax" Proposal: In a surprise move, she announced plans for a wealth tax aimed at generating 6 billion kroner ($870 million) to bolster primary education.

  3. Property Tax Relief: To appease middle-class voters, she proposed abolishing property taxes for homes valued under 1 million kroner.

The Opposition Response

The election will be a grueling test for Denmark's "crisis government"—a rare centrist coalition between the Social Democrats, the Liberals, and the Moderates. While the coalition has stood united against Trump, it is expected to lose its majority as parties revert to traditional left-right battle lines.

Opposition parties on the left, such as the Green Left, are already campaigning on the reinstatement of the "Great Prayer Day" holiday, while right-wing challengers accuse the PM of using the Greenland crisis to distract from "regulatory red tape" and a persistent housing shortage.

"Winter has finally let go and the days are getting longer and brighter," Frederiksen told the Folketing. "It will soon be spring—and the Danes will soon be going to the polls."

Dhaka, Feb 17, 2026 — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formally resumed state power after nearly two decades, as party Chairperson Tarique Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister following a commanding electoral victory in the 13th parliamentary elections.

The BNP secured 209 seats in the 300-member Jatiya Sangsad, enabling it to form a single-party government. The outcome signals a significant shift in the country’s political landscape.

Tarique Rahman succeeds interim administration chief Muhammad Yunus, who took office on August 8, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government amid a mass student-led uprising.

Swearing-In Ceremony at Parliament

The oath-taking programme was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Newly elected Members of Parliament were sworn in during the morning session, while the Prime Minister and cabinet members took oath later in the afternoon.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to lawmakers. President Mohammed Shahabuddin conducted the swearing-in of the Prime Minister and members of the Council of Ministers.

The ceremony drew foreign dignitaries, diplomats, senior civil and military officials, judges, political leaders and members of civil society.

Cabinet Composition Announced

The newly formed cabinet includes senior BNP figures and technocrats entrusted with key portfolios such as finance, home affairs, foreign affairs, commerce, energy, agriculture, environment, law, information, and local government.

Several state ministers were also appointed across ministries including land, power and energy, foreign affairs, youth and sports, labour and employment, education, health, public administration, disaster management, road transport, shipping and others.

Opposition Leadership Finalised

In the newly constituted parliament, Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has been designated as Leader of the Opposition.

His party colleague Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher was named Deputy Opposition Leader. Meanwhile, Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been appointed Opposition Chief Whip.

The decisions were taken at a parliamentary party meeting following the oath ceremony.

BNP Declines Oath for Reform Council

While BNP lawmakers completed their constitutional oath as Members of Parliament, they declined to take an additional oath linked to the proposed Constitution Reform Council.

Senior BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed said the party considers the council to lack formal constitutional recognition at this stage.

According to BNP leaders, their objections are based on three main concerns:

  • The Constitution Reform Council is not currently recognised under the constitutional oath framework.

  • A separate reform oath may conflict with their commitment to uphold and defend the existing Constitution.

  • Any reform mechanism, they argue, must be established through parliamentary debate and legislation rather than through an administrative process.

The party maintains that it remains open to constitutional reform discussions once proper legislative procedures are followed.

Reform Council Debate Continues

Earlier, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Ali Riaz indicated that the Implementation Order 2025 envisages the formation of a Constitution Reform Council tasked with incorporating reform proposals into the Constitution within 180 days of its formation.

However, the BNP’s refusal to join the council at this stage introduces a fresh political debate at the start of the new administration.

With the transfer of authority now complete, the BNP government begins its tenure amid expectations of governance reforms, economic management challenges and potential constitutional restructuring, as Bangladesh enters a new political chapter.

Dhaka, Feb 15, 2026: Following a decisive victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to form the next government, with party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expected to become Prime Minister. As preparations move forward, political discussion has shifted toward the likely composition of the new cabinet.

Strategic Planning Underway

Senior party leaders are reportedly engaged in intensive consultations to finalize a cabinet structure that reflects both experience and renewal. According to BNP insiders, the upcoming cabinet may be moderately sized, though the Prime Minister’s Office could see an expanded role with the appointment of advisers, special assistants, and subject-matter experts.

There are also indications that technocrats with international experience, including individuals who have worked with global development institutions and in the information technology sector, may be considered for advisory roles.

Senior Figures in Consideration

Among the veteran leaders whose names are circulating for key portfolios are BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee members Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Selima Rahman and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.

There is also speculation that Nazrul Islam Khan, another standing committee member who played a prominent role in the party’s recent election management efforts, may assume a significant advisory position in the new administration.

In addition, the names of AZM Zahid Hossain and Abdul Awal Mintoo are being discussed as potential new additions to the cabinet.

Inclusion of Allies

BNP had earlier pledged to build a broader-based government involving allied parties. As part of that commitment, leaders from partner groups may receive cabinet positions.

Among those under consideration are Zonayed Saki of Ganosamhati Andolon and Andalib Rahman Partha of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP).

Several allied politicians who contested under BNP’s electoral symbol and secured victory are also being mentioned. Among them are Shahadat Hossain Selim and Bobby Hajjaj.

Emphasis on Youth and Broader Representation

Party sources suggest that a notable number of young leaders—possibly between 10 and 15—could be included in the new cabinet. The leadership is said to be considering representatives from various regions, including northern, central, and coastal districts, to ensure geographic balance.

Women leaders are also expected to receive significant representation. Lawmakers from districts such as Manikganj, Sylhet, and Faridpur are reportedly under review for ministerial roles.

In addition, BNP is said to be mindful of appointing members from minority communities and the hill districts, reflecting its stated aim of inclusive governance.

Administrative and Policy Appointments

Discussions are ongoing about appointing a retired senior civil servant to oversee the Public Administration Ministry. There is also speculation that individuals with prior cabinet experience, particularly those who served in earlier BNP administrations and maintained relatively low controversy profiles, could return to ministerial roles.

Awaiting Formal Announcement

While internal deliberations continue, senior BNP leader and Cox’s Bazar-1 lawmaker Salahuddin Ahmed has indicated that the official announcement of the cabinet will come soon.

With a new parliament set to convene and a new government about to take office, the focus now remains firmly on the shape and direction of BNP’s incoming cabinet under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.

Dhaka, February 13, 2026 – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced that it will form the next government by February 15, following its sweeping victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections.

The party plans to enter Parliament alongside its allied parties, according to Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who spoke from his Thakurgaon residence on Friday.

BNP Cites Public Support and Challenges Ahead

Fakhrul described BNP as a “party of the people” and pointed to the rise of extremism in the country, blaming it on oppressive forces during the election period. He noted that Jamaat-e-Islami achieved strong results partly due to political pressure on other parties.

The BNP leadership plans to gradually implement the July National Charter, along with its election manifesto and the party’s 31-point program. Fakhrul called the party’s overwhelming win a reflection of the public’s trust and support.

Election Results: BNP Secures Majority

The Election Commission (EC) has announced the official results for 297 parliamentary seats:

  • BNP: 209 seats

  • Jamaat-e-Islami: 68 seats

  • NCP: 6 seats

  • Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis: 2 seats

  • Islami Andolon: 1 seat

  • Khilafat Majlis: 1 seat

  • Gonosonghoti: 1 seat

  • BJP: 1 seat

  • Gonodhikar Party: 1 seat

  • Independents: 7 seats

Two seats in Chattogram remain unannounced due to ongoing court proceedings, and one seat was uncontested. Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said voter turnout was 59.44% for the general election, while 60.26% participated in the referendum, with the ‘Yes’ vote leading with 48,074,429 votes against 22,565,627 ‘No’ votes.

Referendum Backs State Reforms

The historic referendum on constitutional reforms showed a clear victory for the ‘Yes’ side, signaling broad public support for the July National Charter and the planned restructuring of Bangladesh’s political system. The EC confirmed that results from 299 constituencies were fully counted, while Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 remained under legal review.

International Leaders Extend Congratulations

Following BNP’s landslide win, several Indian leaders sent messages of goodwill. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated Tarique Rahman, the BNP chairman, and extended greetings to all citizens of Bangladesh, wishing them well ahead of Ramadan.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also personally called Tarique Rahman to convey his congratulations. Modi highlighted the historic and cultural ties between India and Bangladesh and reaffirmed India’s support for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
