One midnight in winter I see,
A child cuddled up to its mother,
With shivering cold, it found no father,
The hungry fox growled afar off with glee.
The world's frown and the fog's crown
Welcome the newborn guest,
That feels very cosy on mother's breast,
Its budding dreams are turning brown.
The sleeping hopes, finding no scopes,
Fly at large with the wings of sigh,
The gnashing teeth of cold, strongly hold on the sly,
In grim darkness, the blind fury of wind grins and gropes.
