Khulna DC Calls for Media Cooperation to Uphold Democracy and Human Rights

Khulna Deputy Commissioner ASM Zamshed Khandoker has sought cooperation from the media, stressing their vital role in strengthening democracy and protecting human rights.

He made the remarks while exchanging views with local journalists at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khulna Sadar on Tuesday (December 9).

Addressing the meeting, DC Zamshed emphasized the need for objective, credible, and responsible journalism.

He said accurate reporting plays a crucial role in maintaining social stability and improving law and order, which are essential for national development.

Expressing his commitment to impartial administration, the deputy commissioner said he would work transparently and expected support from all stakeholders to serve the public interest effectively.

Describing Khulna as a district of immense potential and commercial importance, he said the country’s overall progress is closely linked to Khulna’s development.

“I am here to contribute to this transformation, and the media has an important role in supporting this process,” he added.

DC Zamshed assured that corruption would not be tolerated under his leadership and that development projects would be implemented strictly for public welfare rather than personal gain.

He also reiterated that citizens have the right to know about government activities and decisions, underscoring the importance of press freedom in safeguarding democracy.

Encouraging positive journalism, he said media coverage of success stories can inspire others to engage in activities beneficial to society. At the same time, he urged journalists to highlight Khulna’s challenges and development needs.

The deputy commissioner further noted that Bangladesh’s progress in various sectors depends largely on the media’s commitment to unbiased reporting.

He advised journalists to verify information carefully before publication, warning that misinformation can have serious consequences.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, Deputy Chief Information Officer of PID Khulna ASM Kabir, Senior Information Officer of PID Khulna Md Mehedi Hasan, Convener of Khulna Press Club Md Enamul Haque, Member Secretary Rafiul Islam Tutul, along with district correspondents of national print and electronic media and local journalists.
