Pentagon Identifies Army Reserve Soldiers Killed in Kuwait Drone Attack

The U.S. military has officially named four of the six service members who lost their lives in a drone strike in Kuwait, marking the first American fatalities of the intensifying conflict between the United States and Iran.

The soldiers, all members of the U.S. Army Reserve, were killed when an enemy unmanned aircraft bypassed air defenses to strike a command center at Port Shuaiba on Sunday.

The Fallen Service Members

The identified soldiers represent a cross-section of dedicated veteran leaders and young recruits:

  • Capt. Cody Khork, 35: A Florida resident and decorated officer with previous deployments to Saudi Arabia, Poland, and Guantanamo Bay.

  • Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42: A Nebraska resident who was on his third deployment to Kuwait.

  • Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39: A Minnesota resident with prior service in both Kuwait and Iraq.

  • Sgt. Declan Coady, 20: An Iowa resident who enlisted only three years ago; he was posthumously promoted to Sergeant.

The death toll, which initially stood at three, doubled on Monday after two additional bodies were recovered from the wreckage and another soldier died from sustained injuries. Two other service members killed in the blast have yet to be identified pending family notification.

Questions Over Base Fortifications

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the strike as involving a "powerful weapon" hitting a "fortified" tactical operations center.

However, military officials speaking to CBS News raised concerns that the soldiers were working in a makeshift office—essentially a trailer—shielded only by concrete barriers.

Escalating Regional Retaliation

The attack is part of a broader retaliatory wave by Iran, which has targeted several Gulf nations allied with the U.S., including Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar. Currently, over 13,000 U.S. troops are stationed in Kuwait as part of a long-standing defense agreement.

In a separate incident in Kuwaiti airspace, the U.S. confirmed that three American fighter jets were lost on Monday due to "friendly fire".

While Iranian state media claimed their forces shot down the aircraft, the U.S. maintains the pilots successfully ejected and survived the accidental downing.
