Northern Israel experienced one of the most intense nights of cross-border violence in recent months as Iran and Hezbollah launched a large-scale coordinated assault involving hundreds of rockets, missiles, and explosive drones.
The attack forced thousands of civilians to rush into bomb shelters while Israeli authorities prepared for further escalation along the Lebanese frontier.
Air raid sirens echoed across wide areas of northern Israel late Wednesday, reaching as far as Haifa and Yokne’am Illit, roughly 50 kilometers from the Lebanese border.
The Israeli military reported that around 150 projectiles were fired in multiple waves, triggering extensive operations by air defense systems attempting to intercept the incoming rockets.
Homes Damaged and Civilians Injured
Emergency responders reported several casualties after a rocket directly struck a residential building in the Upper Galilee region. Volunteer medics from the Israeli emergency organization United Hatzalah said at least five people were injured in the blast.
One individual sustained a hand injury caused by flying debris, while four others were treated for severe shock and trauma. Firefighters responding to the scene temporarily shut down electricity in the area to reduce the risk of fires after the explosion damaged part of the building.
Rescue crews searched surrounding homes for additional victims as residents remained sheltered inside reinforced rooms due to continuing warnings of incoming projectiles.
Israeli Military Launches Retaliatory Strikes
Following the barrage, the Israel Defense Forces launched retaliatory airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued urgent evacuation warnings to residents of the Dahiyeh district in southern Beirut, an area widely known as a Hezbollah stronghold.
Residents were urged to leave buildings that could be targeted in the strikes, as the Israeli military signaled it was preparing for a broader response to the attacks.
Officials indicated that Israel may consider striking infrastructure believed to support Hezbollah’s military operations if the rocket launches continue. However, authorities cautioned that some reports circulating online about the scale of the threat may have been exaggerated.
Missile Alerts Beyond the Northern Front
The crisis is unfolding on multiple fronts. Missile alert sirens were also heard in Jerusalem, parts of the West Bank, and central Israel following launches believed to have originated from Iran.
The attacks underscore the growing regional dimensions of the conflict, raising concerns among international observers that the violence could expand into a wider confrontation involving multiple countries.
International Pressure and Military Developments
The situation is further complicated by the role of the United States in the regional conflict. Reports say American forces have conducted thousands of strikes against Iranian-linked targets as part of Operation Epic Fury, a campaign aimed at weakening Iran’s military infrastructure across the region.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the escalation, asserting that repeated strikes have significantly degraded Iran’s military capabilities.
Emergency Services on Maximum Alert
Emergency response units across northern Israel remain on high alert as authorities assess the damage and prepare for potential follow-up attacks.
Teams from Israel’s search and rescue units, alongside Magen David Adom and national fire services, have been deployed to affected areas.
Rescue crews are currently battling brush fires triggered by falling rocket fragments and continuing searches for civilians who may be trapped inside damaged buildings.
Authorities have instructed residents across northern communities to remain close to shelters and fortified rooms as the risk of additional missile and drone attacks from Lebanon persists.
