Iran Installs Interim Leadership as Retaliatory Strikes Kill 9 in Israel

Iran has formally established an interim governing council led by Ayatollah Alireza Arafi following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during a joint US-Israeli military operation.

The announcement coincided with a surge in regional violence, including a devastating Iranian missile strike on the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh that left nine people dead.

Iran’s Transition Amidst Turmoil

To prevent a power vacuum, Iranian state media announced that a three-man interim leadership council has officially assumed control of the state. The council is composed of:

  • Ayatollah Alireza Arafi: A high-ranking cleric and member of the Guardian Council.

  • Masoud Pezeshkian: The President of Iran, who appeared on state TV to confirm the council's activation.

  • Mohseni Ejehei: The Head of the Judiciary.

President Pezeshkian vowed that Iran’s armed forces would "disappoint" their enemies and claimed that the military is already "crushing enemy bases" in retaliation for the strikes that killed Khamenei and approximately 40 other senior officials.

Escalation: The Deadly Strike on Beit Shemesh

The conflict reached a bloody milestone in central Israel when an Iranian ballistic missile struck a residential neighborhood in Beit Shemesh.

  • Casualties: Rescue services confirmed nine fatalities and nearly two dozen injuries.

  • Destruction: A residential building where civilians were sheltering was completely demolished, leaving a massive crater and piles of twisted metal.

  • Context: This marks the deadliest single attack within Israel since the current conflict escalated.

Broadening Combat: US Carrier Targeted and Gulf Strikes

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has significantly expanded its target list, claiming to have attacked the USS Abraham Lincoln with four ballistic missiles in the Arabian Sea.

While the US has not yet responded to the claim, satellite imagery recently placed the carrier off the coast of Oman.

Retaliatory attacks have rippled across the Gulf:

  • UAE: Three people were killed after the Ministry of Defense engaged over 500 drones and 160 missiles.

  • Kuwait: One person was killed and 32 injured during a wave of strikes intercepted by the Kuwaiti Air Force.

  • Pakistan: Violent protests in Karachi targeting the US consulate resulted in nine deaths during clashes with police.

International Warning

As the IRGC vows "the most devastating offensive operation" against US and Israeli assets, global leaders are on high alert.

US President Donald Trump warned that any further aggression would be met with "force never seen before," even as domestic concerns grow over the risk of a protracted conflict without congressional approval.
