A man suspected of being involved in the stabbing attack on social media personality Saleem Wastik has been killed in a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said the suspect, identified as Zeeshan, was shot during an exchange of fire with officers on Sunday. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but later died while receiving treatment.
The incident follows an attack on Wastik at his residence in Loni, Ghaziabad under Ghaziabad on Friday morning. Two masked attackers reportedly entered his home on a motorcycle and stabbed him in the neck and abdomen before fleeing the scene.
Authorities said Zeeshan was a resident of Amroha. Police have launched continued operations to locate the second suspect linked to the assault.
Following the attack, state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure quick arrests of the remaining accused.
Police formed 10 special teams to investigate the case after an FIR was filed by Wastik’s son, Usman, naming several individuals in the complaint. Raids were conducted at multiple locations in Delhi and Ghaziabad during the search operation.
Wastik runs two YouTube channels and is known for identifying himself as an “ex-Muslim” while sharing critical opinions online.
Officials have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack. Hospital sources earlier described his condition as critical after he was shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
