Israel has announced that it carried out a series of targeted strikes inside Iran, claiming to have killed senior political and security figures, including Ali Larijani and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani. Iranian authorities have not yet confirmed the claims, keeping the situation unclear.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the operations were based on intelligence-driven targeting of individuals linked to Iran’s security and military network. According to Israeli statements, multiple locations in Tehran were hit as part of the coordinated strikes.
Larijani, a prominent figure in Iran’s political establishment, has long played a role in national security affairs. If his death is confirmed, it would mark a significant development following earlier reports of the killing of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during a previous phase of the conflict.
The Israeli military also claimed responsibility for killing Soleimani, who headed the Basij force under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The group is widely involved in internal security and mobilisation efforts across Iran.
Despite the claims, there has been no official confirmation from Tehran. Iranian state media have remained silent on the issue, and no independent sources have verified the reported deaths.
The strikes come as hostilities between the two sides continue to intensify, with repeated missile exchanges and air raids reported in recent days.
