China Threatens Action After CIA Targets PLA Officers in Recruitment Video

Feb 14, 2026: China has promised to respond decisively to foreign espionage activities after the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) released a Chinese-language recruitment video aimed at officers in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Beijing condemned the video as a blatant political provocation and a deliberate attempt to undermine Chinese authority and national security.

The video, posted on the CIA’s YouTube channel, portrays a fictional Chinese officer who decides to contact the US intelligence agency to report misconduct by military leaders. It encourages PLA personnel to provide information on the Chinese government and armed forces, drawing strong criticism from Beijing.

China Pledges to Defend National Security

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian warned that China would take “all necessary measures” to counter infiltration and sabotage by foreign anti-China forces.

He emphasized the country’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty, security, and development interests but did not provide specifics on possible measures.

“China will resolutely combat infiltration and sabotage activities of foreign anti-China forces and safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests,” Lin said.

Inside the CIA Video

The recruitment video shows a Chinese officer contemplating the self-interest and alleged lies of military leaders.

Scenes depict the officer at home with his family, driving through a rainy checkpoint, and using a laptop in his car while declaring, “Picking this path is my way of fighting for my family and my country.”

The CIA has not commented on China’s response. Experts say the video is part of broader intelligence-gathering efforts aimed at recruiting insiders within highly controlled military structures.

Rising US-China Tensions

The incident highlights the growing friction between Washington and Beijing over espionage, cybersecurity, and military activities.

Both nations have repeatedly accused each other of covert operations and intelligence collection, raising concerns over potential escalation.

China’s firm reaction underscores its determination to tighten security within the PLA and prevent foreign interference, signaling a potentially tougher stance on espionage-related incidents in the future.
