Dana Eden, a prominent Israeli television producer and co-creator of the internationally acclaimed drama Tehran, has died suddenly at the age of 52 while in Athens for the filming of the show’s fourth season.
The news was confirmed by Israeli public broadcaster Kan, which reported that Eden had traveled to Greece to oversee production activities.
Found Unresponsive in Hotel Room
According to Hebrew-language reports, Eden was discovered unresponsive in her hotel room on Sunday after family members became concerned when they were unable to reach her. Her brother reportedly went to check on her after repeated messages went unanswered.
Greek authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of her death. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause, while police are reviewing security camera recordings and collecting statements from hotel staff. Officials have not indicated any immediate signs of criminal activity.
Tributes From Israel’s Broadcasting Community
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over Eden’s passing, describing her as one of the leading creative forces in Israel’s television landscape.
The broadcaster highlighted her role in shaping some of its most influential productions and praised her long-standing professional contributions. Colleagues remembered her as a dedicated creator whose influence extended well beyond a single series.
Production Company Dismisses Online Speculation
Donna and Shula Productions, the company Eden co-founded with producer Shula Spiegel, rejected rumors circulating on social media suggesting foul play. In an official statement, the company said there was no evidence supporting claims of criminal or politically motivated involvement in her death.
The statement urged the media and public to refrain from spreading unverified theories and to respect the privacy of Eden’s family during a time of mourning.
A Career Marked by International Success
“Tehran,” co-created by Eden alongside Moshe Zonder and Maor Kohn, gained global recognition and won an International Emmy Award. The espionage thriller is distributed internationally via Apple TV+ and has attracted a wide audience beyond Israel.
Due to restrictions preventing Israeli citizens from traveling to Iran, parts of Athens were used as a filming substitute for Tehran — a creative decision reportedly influenced by Eden’s earlier visit to Greece.
Over the course of her career, Eden was involved in producing more than 40 television series and films, spanning scripted dramas, documentaries, and children’s programming. Industry figures say her legacy will continue to shape Israeli and international television for years to come.
